The fact that I have two men in my life that mean the world to me is such a blessing. An added bonus is the love that these two have for one another. My husband and daddy are two amazing men that are so much alike. They love their women unconditionally and love with all that they are. I love them so much and wouldn't trade either of them for anything else in the world. Demetrius & Todd = my heart and I know that I'm one lucky girl.

Demetrius and I love to travel and found that in our travels Koi fish are everywhere. We have both found a tremendous amount of love for these fish and after doing some research we found that Koi are very symbolic in some cultures. The Japanese associate Koi with perseverance in adversity and strength of purpose. Because of its strength and determination to overcome obstacles, it stands for courage and the ability to attain high goals.
Koi fish are celebrated in Japan, particularly for its manly qualities. It is said to climb waterfalls bravely, and, if caught, it lies upon the cutting board awaiting the knife without a quiver (what a gangsta).
Koi fish came to be associated with so many masculine and positive qualities that it was appropriated for the annual Boys' Day Festival in Japan where even today colorful, streaming Koi flags are traditionally displayed for each son in the family. We both loved the Koi fish so much and found it interesting that not only are they beautiful but they're extremely unique.

giving birth to me

I had a weird dream last night about our future children so I decided to blog about it (duh). It was such a sweet dream and extremely hard to wake up from. Overall it was just about me giving birth, but the ironic thing was is that the baby I was giving birth to looked just like me. Actually I think it was me...giving birth to me. The picture on the bottom right corner is exactly who I gave birth to. I even had that pink outfit on, Copenhagen on my head, and that hideous bed sheet made a guest appearance too. Fun times in the Hilmes bed last night so I thought that I would share!

D and I went to Flemings recently to celebrate a friends promotion (Congrats again Kristin). I ran across this drink and thought it was so cute since my sister's last name is about to be Farmer and my niece Kendelyn is Farmer's daughter. Not only was the name adorable but the drink was actually amazing and for 99 calories, you can't beat it!

If you can't read the menu, the contents include: Ketel One Vodka, basil, strawberries, lemon, & cranberry juice! ENJOY!!!

1 year, 1 month

Exactly one month ago today, Demetrius and I celebrated our one year anniversary. I didn't start my blog until after this date so I wanted to take a minute to let you all know that our first year of marriage was incredible, despite what others told us about the dreadful first year.  


Demetrius and I were told by so many people that the first year of marriage is the hardest. I honestly hoped for the worst since that is what we heard constantly from other married couples. I have to say that I just don't think this to be true. I don't know if it's because we lived together for many years before marriage or what, but our first year of marriage was the best year that we spent together. I do know that marriage is work and you have to give it your all, but I also know that if marriage continues on the path that it is....I will be the happiest girl in the world. I just love marriage and wish this love on everyone in the world <3!!!

It's here, it's here:) My smash book has arrived and I couldn't be more excited. I LOVE to scrapbook pictures of events that happen within a year, but I don't scrapbook things that happen on a day-to-day basis...until now. I saw this on a friends page and I fell in love. What better way to capture things that happen on a weekly basis than this? I believe that the smash book is the perfect way to capture things that I wouldn't put into my actual scrapbook. The smash book will capture The Little Things, which are my absolute favorite.

Like many of my friends, I am a product whore and always have been (I believe that I get this from my beautiful mother). I just love going into drug stores just to search the new products that are available; so when a friend told me about Birchbox I was completely stoked.

Each box contains 4-5 samples that range from nail care, hair care, makeup, and skin care products. Birchbox is only $10 a month, so it won't exactly break the bank either. I spend way more buying the actual product to find out that I don't even like it so this is perfect. I am super excited about my first shipment and will post about it upon its delivery. YEAH!!!

gotta start somewhere

I have contemplated beginning a blog for awhile now and I have finally decided to do so. I just want a place to reflect on the things I obsess about so I don’t forget, as I often do. My MIL Carmen has been my inspiration to finally start blogging and I am thankful for that because I needed that extra push for sure. My MIL is in Cambodia for a year and I wanted an easier way for her to keep up with what’s going on in my world, as I wish she were here to actually be in it. We miss you MIL and think about you often. July can't come soon enough.
